Fire Monitoring, Mapping and Modeling System (Fire M3)
The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing and the Canadian Forest Service operate the Fire Monitoring, Mapping and Modeling System (Fire M3) that automatically identifies, monitors and maps large forest fires on a daily basis using NOAA AVHRR satellite data. Automated image analysis processes are incorporated to identify active fires and format these data for use in spatially based fire behaviour models:
Weekly National Forest Fire Situation Reports
Every Friday the Canadian Forest Service provides an Updated National Forest Fire Situation Report. The website includes the number of fires by province, area burned by province, weekly fire occurrence, weekly area burned, and archived reports (starting 1998).
Fire weather and behaviour
Fire weather and behaviour outputs from the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System (CWFIS) are incorporated to produce quantitative estimates of fire behaviour for each active fire.
