At the First Baltic Conference on Forest Fires (Poland 1998) and at BALTEX FIRE 2000 it had been decided that Finland acts as a convener of the Baltic activities within the work of the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Fire. After the last regional network meeting (Helsinki, Finland, 10 May 2004) the lead was handed over to Germany (GFMC) and Russia (Avialesookhrana). Starting 2010 co-chairs were included from the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
