Sub-Regional Euro-Alpine Network |
|
Forest and other
vegetation fires are threatening the ecological heritage of the Alpine
environment, which is highly vulnerable to fire. This vulnerability is
increased by the consequences of regional climate change resulting in
decreasing precipitation, increased temperature and weather extremes.
The depopulation and overexploitation of the mountain region contributes
to this development. The main objective of the sub-regional network is
to reduce the extent and impacts of wildfires by building cooperative
regional capacities in wildland fire research and management, notably
through competency-based training and improvement of preparedness and
ability to control wildfires.
