UNIVERSITIES

Courses on fire science or fire management are offered by a number of universities worldwide. The numerous universities in the U.S.A. that are offering courses on a regular basis and as part of their curricula are not listed here. Those interested in qualifying in the U.S.A. are encouraged to search the internet for details. Universities from other countries that allow participation of students from outside their university or through inter-university agreements are encouraged to announce their courses on this site (contact: fire@fire.uni-freiburg.de). The Summer School "Incendios Forestales: ¿Una Catástrofe Estival Inevitable?" will be held at the Chair Análisis Geográfico Regional, Facultad de Geografía e Historia, Universidad Complutense, 21-25 July 2008 (draft programme - course language: Spanish).

Germany
The course module "Fire ecology of tropical, subtropical and temperate-boreal forest ecosystems" is integrated part of the university training of Freiburg University (Germany), Faculty for Forest and Environmental Sciences.

USDA Forest Service International Programs
The USDA Forest Service International Programs organizes annually international seminars designed for natural resource managers around the world. These intensive and interactive seminars, which feature fascinating site visits and in-depth case analyses, are designed to stimulate debate and discussion among participants. National Wildfire Coordination Group's (NWCG) Training Working Team (TWT)

The TWT manages the NWCG training curricula program; recommends for approval the Wildland Fire curriculum; oversees NWCG course revisions; recommends to NWCG the course development and format standards; assures all training materials developed by NWCG meet the Course Development and Format Standards; and provides guidance to other teams on the development process and standards. The Nature Conservancy's Fire Management & Research Program
The Nature Conservancy's Fire Management & Research Program offers training workshops each year, held at different sites in the United States. The workshops are structured to expose TNC fire management personnel and cooperators to the fundamentals of prescribed burning and fire ecology.

National Park Service

The Partnership for Wildland Fire Training – Part of Global FIREnet
The Partnership for Wildland Fire Training is a pilot project representing a joint effort between The University of Montana, the Southwest Montana Geographic Zone of the Northern Rockies Coordinating Group, and
Global FIREnet. The goal is to expand upon currently available wildland fire training opportunities, to capitalize on the University of Montana's  expertise in program planning and management, and most importantly to provide high quality, low cost training opportunities for wildland firefighters - whether they are privately or government employed. All courses are completely sanctioned by National Wildfire Coordinating Group and the Northern Rockies Training Group and will be administered completely and professionally.

Ministry of Forests, British Columbia
Similar to the International Air Attack Officer (Level One) course conducted in May 2001, that was attended by fire suppression representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Italy, another Level 1 AAO course will be offered to international participants in Kamloops, British Columbia, between April 18 - 22, 2005. 
This course will also be attended by fire suppression personnel from both British Columbia and the various provincial agencies across Canada.  The ground school portion of the training will take place commencing 09:00 Monday, April 18 to 12:00 Thursday, April 21 (exam). Practical flight exercises will commence on Thursday @ 13:00 through to approximately 13:30 on Friday, April 22. Course instruction will be provided in English language, however, simultaneous translation services can be provided upon request.
The course fees are $500.00 for the ground school session and $750.00 for the flight exercises which will involve air tanker and birddog aircraft for 2 drops for approximately 30 minutes per individual trainee.
