1 click here to enlarge (22 KB) Aerial view of a typical everglades landscape. Small and medium-sized tree islands in this part of the Everglades are scattered in the wetlands (marshes). Recurring fires keep the marshes open and inhibit the spread of trees and bushes into the wetlands.
